Ride the rapids like a pro at Tunnel49 – where white water rafting is the ultimate adventure

To Expect

Trips depart from our office in Fernie at 9 am, where you’ll sign in,get your river gear, and jump on the bus for a short(30min) drive to Elko where you’ll get your first view of the river and canyon walls. At the put-in, you’ll have an opportunity to go to the toliet before putting on the rest of your river gear. You’ll meet one of the guides who will pass out the multipurpose paddles and walk you down the 300+ steps to the river.

This is where you’ll begin the 16km journey of wilderness and white water, in the raging elk canyon as it carves its way through the Rocky Mountains. After a thorough safety briefing, you’ll load into the rafts with a paddle in hand. Your guide will do some paddle command training with you before you enter into the first class 4 rapid of the day. After some seriously fun splashes we’ll stop for a delicious riverside picnic lunch, and you’ll have a chance to chat with your friendly and knowledgable guides, if needed there is wilderness toliet with a view.

After lunch we proceed into the deepest section of the river, the Phillip’s Canyon where you’ll have the opportunity to cliff jump. Once the jumping and swimming is all done, we continue along, taking in the breathtaking scenery of the epic canyon walls and the abundance of wildlife, particularly the majestic bald eagles, the last stretch of the river mellows out which allows for lots of river games. If you’re on the Elk Canyon trip your whitewater rafting experience will come to an end at Lake Koocanusa where the river feeds into the lake. From 2:30-3:30 PM, the bus will be waiting to take you back to Tunnel49 base, where you can view all the photos from your epic adventure.
