WHERE WE BEGAN
Tunnel49, previously known as Mountain High Adventures, was established in 1995, and thanks to our amazing customers and team, has grown into one of the most reputable adventure tour companies in British Columbia.
Our name is inspired by the Highway 3 Tunnel that runs between Fernie and Elko B.C. This tunnel was originally a part of the Great Northern Railway roadbed and is the only tunnel that sits on the 49th parallel.

Powered By Bio Diesel
Tunnel49 works with local businesses to cut waste and greenhouse gas emissions. We partner with a unique programme in which fryer oil is collected from businesses and exchanged for processed biodiesel, which can be created from renewable sources like plants. These plants are grown specifically for fuel and used in place of petroleum-based fuels like gasoline or diesel. The amount of heat-trapping carbon dioxide that is released from the plants is lower than if you used conventional gas!
We Strive For Zero Waste Lunches
Providing zero waste lunches on our adventures is our goal- and we’re achieving it one container at a time! By using Tupperware containers for food storage and doing dishes daily to eliminate plastic cutlery, we are playing our part in being an eco-friendly business. Reducing our use of pre-packaged food and buying in bulk is also a part of our strategy- organics only, please!
Leave No Trace
We care about the environment and want to protect it for future generations. A portion of our proceeds are used towards building access roads and put-in/take out areas so you can enjoy nature without disturbing the environment with your bike!
We only offer activities that are human powered, reducing our carbon footprint.
